Depending on the size of your extension, it could actually be cheaper to build a detached self contained granny flat. We were quoted about $105,000 for a self contained 2 bedroom grannyflat, and about $150,000 for a 2 bedroom extension without a kitchen. I guess every house is different.
Try www.grannyflatsaustralia.com.au

I think the new government policy is fantastic. We had a very professional company come and inspect our site, they did the design, got the approvals for us in 10 days, then built the granny flat for us. Its worth checking them out if you are thinking of building a granny flat: Granny Flats Australia.

If the government can do anything we should act and do something for our own good and for the next generation. Thanks for your suggestions. By the way, I found the most comprehensive real estate online marketing package in Australia that will surely benefit you. Good luck!

Hey Aussie,

Great article about adding value to your property through granny flats or subdividing!

If it helps your Victorian readers, we've written an article that outlines the Planning Permit process for subdividing land in Victoria into dual occupancy (or higher density) here:
http://brutalart.com.au/subdivision/subdivide-land/

PS. Do you, or your readers, know of any similar websites outlining the subdivision process in NSW?

Keep up the great blog!
